Room Check Suggestion Empty Room Check Suggestion

Post  Apostle Mon May 24, 2010 6:16 pm

Not saying names but someone stole three of my rooms on Wolfhome (They removed the rooms for me). And a user told me a room I made and hosted for them, the user kept bragging saying how they made it when actually I DID. Never had my art stolen before so now I see how heart breaking it can be. I didn't added a signature or water mark on it so I'm just at fault.

Maybe only accept rooms when permission posted (as always) and signatured/water marked rooms? My rooms get accepted when ever I put "Made by me" but I suppose it's easy for others to do that as well. :(
I'm going to start copyrighting my rooms now so I can start doing what I think is safer.

I don't know, what do you think?
Of course uploading rooms isn't a problem right now since we still need the site up; but as a future reference.

I just talked to Imi, and she said proof is required for all art.

However, you can't prove if you made something. That's where things get difficult. All someone has to do is say they made something for it to be accepted, unless an ART member recognizes it from elsewhere.

The only advice I can give is to watermark everything :\

Yes...that is a problem.. hrm.

Perhaps we could pull the person on chat, and ask them if so and so made the room, or if someone made it for them, to pull up proof. :/

@Condemned

Yeah going to start doing that.

@DUTB

That's a good idea, they could lie though. :(
They could always just mod on the watermark as well!
Wow, being safer seems harder to do lol.

Don't worry. Modding watermarks is very hard to do without ruining the room or leaving some trace of the previous one behind.

True. :>

We can just save this for later in case anything happens like an idea or something.

Ohlordy. This is one of those things that can never be truly prevented. Anything that goes up on the internet, deleted or regardless, is on the internet forever.
A water mark would basically make the rooms quality to go down. A signature could either be cropped out, or someone could easily go over.

I think the best that we all can do, is to keep our eyes peeled. And as it was mentioned above, possibly ask people in chat. Since you have to believe ones word for it, if they say they made it. Next best thing, is to follow through, and just open our eyes, and keep a good look out.

That's really all we could do. Internet is after all, one of the most dangerous places. And theft is just one of the big predicaments.

But as said, I think all of us will keep a good eye on such things. :)

Watermarks don't necessarily have to ruin the quality of the picture. Just put it on another layer and save the original picture so you can upload that, while you show the one with the watermark in public. Also, it doesn't hurt to put a small signature at the bottom.

Unfortunately, Sundu is right about this kind of thing being hard to prevent/catch and that the best thing we can do is keep our eyes open. Fortunately, the art staff is always willing to try and help you.

Indeed, it is hard to prevent.

And by quality I meant, that the color isn't necessarily the same in areas, due to the water mark. And that water marks are quite...annoying? Haha. But its one way to prove its yours, just another, all the same, to have the picture have a water mark on it that gets in the way of the picture. Thus, annoying, but its of course all up to the person by all means.

I think the best bet, that may make one feel "a little safer", would be using a signature. But as mentioned, it can easily be cropped out, or drawn over to hide it.
And nothing is truly safe online.

Repeating myself, haha :)

But I'm glad you agree condemned :)

I agree too with Sundu'.
These are hard to prevent.
Don't worry. I'll keep my eyes open.
When they think I'm just a clueless user, I'll be watching them all.

You could also upload a watermarked version to deviantart/fA/etc to your dA account, which could help the whole proof thing.
